US coding site GitHub diverts traffic after cyber attack

  • GitHub, an American coding site, has been deflecting a majority of its traffic following a cyber attack.

According to some unconfirmed reports, the attack, which led to outages on the social coding site, may have originated in China.

In a Twitter message, GitHub said its "mitigation" efforts were ongoing and it was “aware of intermittent issues.”

The type of cyber attack seen in this case is known as DDoS (distributed denial of service), and is commonly used by hacker groups.
