Uber Stops using Greyball Tool Secret to Avoid Law Enforcement

  • Days after Uber defended its controversial programme in order to protect its drivers from harm; the cab-hailing app announced that it will not use its “Greyball” tool secret anymore to avoid law enforcement regulators.

The “Greyball” programme used credit card information, geolocation data, social media accounts and other data to keep a track on users they believed to be involved in sting operations in cities where the service was banned.

Cities and countries where this programme was used include Boston, Portland, Las Vegas, France, China, South Korea, Australia and Italy.
