Twitter translates top Egypt tweets
July 5 , 2013
Twitter has been translating top tweets from Tweets leading Egyptian commentators for non-Arabic speakers following the removal of President Mohammed Morsi.
Figures being translated include Morsi himself, opposition leader Mohammed El Baradei and several prominent activists such as Wael Ghonim.
Twitter has been using Microsoft Bing translator and though has not officially launched the service, said in a statement to digital news site AllThingsD: "As part of our experiment with tweet text translation, we've enabled translation for some of the most-followed accounts in Egypt, so people around the world can better understand and keep up with what's happening there."
Twitter’s list of all the Egyptian accounts it is translating is called egypt2013 and features 63 members.
