Twitter sued over a fan account

  • James Dean Inc. doesn't like the fact that there's a Twitter account with the late actor's name. James Dean Inc. represents the actor's heirs and is now suing the anonymous fan responsible for creating the account, four other defendants whose accounts on Twitter use the actor's names in other forms and Twitter itself.

The unnamed owner of the account said he never attempted to make any money out of the whole thing.

"This is a first-of-its-kind case, as far as I know," an expert said. He noted that people are not allowed to use celebrity names as web domains without a permission but the rule doesn't apply to Twitter.

The company stated that the @JamesDean announce is "not being used in a way that is misleading or confusing with regard to its brand, location, or business affiliation."
