Twitter steps up action against cyber-bullying

  • Social networking firm Twitter will take action against violent threats amid greater efforts to confront online abuse, it has said.

The company has admitted that its rules, which required a threat to be specific and direct to attract intervention, were too “narrow”.

Though a complaint is still required to be made before an account is blocked, Twitter said it was looking at ways to make a broader range of abusive tweets automatically less prominent.

The move comes after several high-profile incidents of cyber-bullying.
