Twitter launches music service
April 13 , 2013
Micro-blogging site Twitter has launched a new music service after acquiring the music discovery site We Are Hunted.
We Are Hunted confirmed the deal, saying "there's no question that Twitter and music go well together" and added it was shutting down.
Twitter launched music.twitter.com on Friday but it is so far by “invite only”
Media reports suggest the new service will offer personalized music recommendations through its own dedicated app.
On Thursday, U.S. celebrity host Ryan Seacrest confirmed the existence of Twitter's new app via a tweet: "playing with @twitter's new music app (yes it's real!)... there's a serious dance party happening at idol right now".
The We Are Hunted acquisition occurred last year but the music service has long been in the pipeline.
Twitter’s new app comes as reports emerged that Apple has signed a deal with Universal to create an Internet radio service using its iTunes platform.
