Trust the system, don't ask for raise, Microsoft CEO tells women

  • In comments that have caused a controversy, Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella said on Thursday, October 9, in an event in Phoenix, Arizona that women should trust the system instead of asking for a raise.

He said not asking for a raise was like “good karma.” He suggested that “knowing and having faith” that the system would eventually give you “the right raises” was a better way to go about it.

Nadella, however, corrected himself later, saying in an email to Microsoft employees that “you should just ask” if you feel you deserve a raise.
