The New York Times website crashes
August 15 , 2013
The New York Times website crashed for about two hours between 11:10am and 1:15pm Eastern. The company blamed it on an internal issue.
Fox Business News quoted a source who blamed the crash on an attack but the Times later cleared it up and said the maintenance was routine and there was indeed an internal issue.
According to chief technology officer at IOActive, the crash was likely self-inflicted. "It could have been something as simple as a misconfigured DNS server of load balancer," he said. However, Trend Micro's vice president of cyber security, Tom Kellermann doesn't buy the explanation and continues to believe that the site had been "under attack again."
