Taiwan: Electric scooter with swappable batteries to go on sale

  • An electric scooter that comes with swappable batteries is going on sale in Taiwan.

Priced at $4,140, the Smartscooter will be available on pre-order from June 27 in capital Taipei, manufacturer Gogoro announced.

Riders can change batteries at several company-run charging stations in the city, but there is no other way to recharge the scooters.

The Smartscooter runs on two removable batteries, with a range of around 60 miles.

Gogoro chairman Horace Luke said this was a demonstration of the leadership “behind smart energy and smart transportation.”
