Syrian hackers target the Onion Twitter feed
May 8 , 2013
Hackers from the Syrian Electronic Army attacked the Twitter feed of US satire news site The Onion on Tuesday.
The cyber attack is the latest in a series of hackings, which previously include the BBC, Reuters, CBS and the Associated Press.
The Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for the attacks by posting messages supporting Syria's President, Bashar al-Assad.
The group is believed to have targeted The Onion following the publication of an article that poked fun at Assad's stance on the ongoing conflict.
The Onion has since deleted the messages and sent out a series of tweets to its five million followers, making fun of the situation.
