Skype video calls can now be wiretapped
July 13 , 2013
The Guardian reports that it is now possible for the government to wiretap video calls on Skype. This wasn't a possibility in the past when the company was owned by eBay but ever since Microsoft has become the owner of Skype, the scenario has changed.
In fact, Microsoft simply did not respond when it was asked about whether or not eavesdropping by the government was a possibility today. Moreover, no government agency can do this on its own without the help of Microsoft so it is still easier for them to intercept emails than to use Skype calls in this way.
Although Microsoft has worked out a deal with the government giving it access to certain aspects such as its cloud storage service, Microsoft claims that the government doesn't have direct access to any of its products.
