Peter Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal and the first outside investor of Facebook, may be set to invest around $150 million in Airbnb.
The deal would value the lodging rental start-up at about $2.5 billion.
Details of the deal, which has not yet closed, were first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Friday.
If signed under the reported terms, the agreement would turn Airbnb into of Silicon Valley's most valuable private companies.
Airbnb was set up four years ago by a trio of graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard.
Last year, the company received a $110 million investment from venture firms like Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst Partners.
