Pakistan restores Twitter access
May 21 , 2012
The Pakistani government has restored access to the social media site Twitter hours after it deemed messages as offensive to Islam.
No clear reason was given for the ban though media reports suggest it may have stemmed from tweets about a 2010 competition on Facebook to submit images of the Prophet Muhammad.
Islam forbids images of the Prophet.
The restrictions came into place shortly after Interior Minister Rehman Malik said there were no plans to block Twitter.
The ban was lifted with no given explanation about eight hours after it came into force.
