Orion makes splashdown after successful maiden voyage

  • Nasa’s spaceship Orion completed its unmanned voyage, making a splashdown in the Pacific.

Support vessels of the navy recovered the floating spaceship.

Orion has been designed to eventually undertake manned missions to Mars and other destinations, though some experts believe that such a trip to the red planet could take at least two decades to become a reality.

The Orion’s maiden four-and-a-half hour flight, after its launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida, was meant to tests its key technologies such as the heat shield.
