Olympics ramps up pressure on mobile networks
July 27 , 2012
UK telecoms firms are confident their networks will cope with the pressure of the hundreds of thousands of spectators, workers and athletes using mobile devices across London's Olympic Park.
Thirty mobile phone masts have been fitted across the 500-acre site with 14 of them for inside stadiums and other buildings.
Organizers have said this will allow everyone to make calls, send texts, browse the Internet and upload material to social networks even during the busiest times.
The nine venues on site have a capacity of over 160,000 spectators at any one time.
In addition, 20,000 members of the media are expected along with thousands more workers and security as well as 17,500 Olympics athletes and officials.
