Nintendo's Wii U sells less than expected
May 19 , 2013
The Wii U, a state-of-the-art console launched by Nintendo in November last year, has not been selling as per expectations.
The last fiscal year saw approximately 3.5 million Wii U consoles uploaded, 0.5 million short of target.
It is estimated that Nintendo sold a paltry 55,000 Wii U systems in the U.S. in April, severely less when compared with the aged Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
It was also reported that industry big-wig Electronics Arts (EA) was withdrawing support for the console. “We have no games in development for the Wii U currently,” an EA sportsperson commented.
However, he added that EA had not ruled out the possibility of developing some Wii U-based games in the future.
