New technique for testing embryos for genetic disorders is successful

  • A pregnancy from a new IVF technique, which tests embryos for genetic disorders before they are implanted, has been reported by British doctors, the first such successful case in Europe.

Using the procedure, doctors can select embryos, which are free of dangerous mutations carried by either or both parents.

Doctors at London's Center for Reproductive and Genetic Health said the couple, who had a high risk of passing on a lethal genetic disorder to their children, are now 17 weeks into the pregnancy.
