Neilsen launches Twitter TV ratings
October 9 , 2013
A new rating system by Nielson tracks what TV shows people are posting about on Twitter instead of measuring what they're watching.
The Twitter TV Ratings finds out the number of the times the show was tweeted about and how many people viewed those particular tweets; the system also proves that chatter on Twitter is unrelated to the number of viewers of a show.
A spokesperson for Twitter said "if your show is creating conversation on Twitter, it is more valuable, and you should get credit for that." However, many advertisers said they believe there's still more research required to prove that.
"Still so much more research that has to be done to understand the value of it," a media buyer said. "If a show is social does that mean it helps or hurts the advertisers?"
