NASA develops new flexible plane wing that can 'change shape like birds'
April 30 , 2015
Nasa has unveiled a bird-like plane wing that can alter shape during flight.
The wing has been jointly developed by the US space agency, the Air Force Research Laboratory and FlexSys, a private technology company.
Nasa said that the new wing, which has a seamless flexible edge, would save “millions of dollars” in annual fuel costs, cut airframe weight and reduce noise during take-off and landing.
However, it could be years before the flexible wing replaces the conventional wing.
