Mozilla to launch phones in Europe this year

  • Mozilla, the creators of the Firefox web browser, are to launch a smartphone in Europe this year.

    Chinese phone-equipment maker ZTE revealed on Thursday that it was working with a European wireless carrier to sell Mozilla's Firefox OS-powered phones.

    ZTE chief executive Cheng Lixin added the phones could also be marketed in the United States this year.

    The phones are expected to compete with Google's Android but at the lower end of the smartphone market.

    Jay Sullivan, vice president of products at Mozilla, said the firm was also working with equipment makers Qualcomm, TCL Communication Technology Holdings on the new devices.
