Mood experiment conducted on Facebook

  • Researchers played with Facebook News Feeds of over 600k users for a week and showed some people use more negative and positive posts as compared to the others. The research revealed that these posts actually affected the feelings of users. However, John Grohol of PychCentral doesn't agree with the findings. 

    Grohol said he doesn't trust how words were tracked in these posts and noted that the difference of mood changes between the two groups was not substantial.

    "This isn't an 'effect' so much as a statistical blip that has no real-world meaning," he said.
