Mobiles surpass global population next year

By next year, the number of mobile subscriptions will exceed the global population, according to a United Nations agency report released on Thursday.
The International Telecoms Union estimates that subscription numbers will top seven billion by early 2014.
At present, there are 6.8 billion mobile subscriptions out of a global population of 7.1 billion people.
The group of nations that formerly made up the Soviet Union boasts the highest rate of mobile penetration with 1.7 subscriptions for every person.
Africa is at the bottom with 63 subscriptions for every 100 inhabitants.
