Mobile apps charges: Google agrees to refund $19 million
September 5 , 2014
Google has agreed to refund around $19 million to customers after complaints that children using mobile apps that were downloaded from the Google store were unfairly billed for incurred charges.
The Federal Trade Commission announced the settlement.
Google will also modify its billing system so that customers’ consent is obtained before they are charged for apps.
The complaints had also triggered a debate about children making digital purchases without consulting their parents.
