Microsoft research boss to step down before 2014 retirement

  • Microsoft has announced its research boss Craig Mundie is stepping down ahead of his retirement in 2014.

    Mundie has been with the company for 20 years and has overseen the work of Microsoft's security program and R&D.

    He was chosen by Bill Gates in 2008 after the Microsoft co-founder ended his day-to-day role at the firm.

    Prior to retirement Mundie will act as a senior adviser to Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer.
