Microsoft files suit against Samsung over royalty payments

  • Software major Microsoft has filed a suit against technology firm Samsung, saying that the South Korean smartphone-maker owes it money.

According to a patent-sharing agreement between the two companies, Samsung has to pay a royalty to Microsoft for every Android smartphone sold.

Microsoft says Samsung has not lived up to its obligations. In a blog post, Microsoft's deputy general counsel David Howard wrote that “Samsung has made clear in a series of letters and discussions that we have a fundamental disagreement as to the meaning of our contract.”
