Internet addiction afflicts 182 million people across the world

According to new research, internet addiction now affects 6 per cent of people, amounting to roughly 182 million, at the global level.
Researchers from the University of Hong Kong compared internet penetration figures in 80 global studies. Cecelia Cheng and Angel Yee-lam Li compared reports of addiction across 31 nations in seven regions. They studied previous academic papers that referenced the addiction. As per their findings, the internet addiction across these 31 nations averaged at 6 per cent.
Some of the key internet addiction figures included Middle East: 10.9 percent; North America: 8 percent; Asia: 7.1 percent; South and East Europe: 6.1 percent, and North and West Europe: 2.6 percent.
