Information of 4.6M Snapchat users hacked
January 3 , 2014
Photo-sharing mobile app Snapchat is facing a major hack affecting the usernames and phone numbers of 4.6M users.
The hackers censored the last two digits of phone numbers and put the details online, telling Mashable that they wanted to "raise the public awareness around the issue, and also put public pressure on Snapchat to get this exploit fixed."
Snapchat mentioned that it's taking steps to deal with the hack and will update when it's possible to do so.
Reports suggest that a firm called Gibson Security attempted to warn Snapchat of the issue and the company could have eliminated the problem easily.
"We felt that something like this was inevitable," the firm said.
