Inflatable aircraft could explore Venus
March 4 , 2014
Scientists are eager to know more about Venus and a new airship could help them do so.
The Venus Atmospheric Maneuverable Platform, or VAMP, is a large but inflatable sky rover, which could explore the planet's atmosphere for around a year. The aircraft is still being designed but could prove to be a major technological breakthrough.
It would reach higher altitudes by using powered propellers and the carrier spacecraft would be able to receive its data and send it back to Earth. The process will continue until the aircraft loses its buoyancy and the exploration comes to an end.
