HTC Wins Patent Dispute With Apple
July 5 , 2012
A High Court in London ruled that HTC could continue to use swipe-to-unlock and had not infringed any of the four technologies that Apple had claimed. Judge Christopher Floyd’s ruling is significant because Apple is locked in a patent battle against Samsung in the US and according to Apple, one of the patent infringements by Samsung is the swipe-to-unlock-technology. HTC’s victory may weaken Apple’s argument when the US patent battle comes up. Judge Floyd referred to the device, Neonode N1 which was released in 2004, and said that Apple’s swipe-to-unlock and HTC’s arc unlock were both obvious improvisations.
