Hashtag activism may not help the kidnapped girls

The hashtag #BringBackOurGirls has been designed to spread the word about Nigeria's abducted girls. D.A. Lovell of the Root used the hashtag on Twitter, but decided to stop because this kind of activism may raise awareness, but could also keep us from accomplishing something real.
"It makes us feel as if the job is done, thereby keeping us from taking a course of action that may be more effective in the long term," she writes, adding that a good citizen should make themselves more aware of the situation in Nigeria.
A mindless tweet is simply not enough and problems such as this one need big changes.
