Hacking tool: malware uses Twitter with coded photos to steal data
July 30 , 2015
A new type of malware that combines coded photographs with micro blogging site Twitter to target computers has been discovered by a security firm. According to FireEye, it may have been developed by a Russia-based group.
The tool, known as Hammertoss, reportedly generates Twitter accounts that tweet a hashtag and web address, giving an image’s size and location.
The photo has hidden instructions stored on coding site Github, making it possible for the attackers to steal data from a computer.
