Hackers exploit internet address flaw to target websites

  • Hackers are taking advantage of a flaw in the architecture of the internet, a security firm has said. The bug affects systems that turn URLs into IP addresses. By exploiting it, hackers could potentially carry out denial-of-service attacks on sites, thus adversely affecting the smooth functioning of net services. But regular net services are not likely to be badly hit, the security firm said. Though a patch for the vulnerability is available, many systems have not been updated.
