Google's Marissa Mayer appointed as new Yahoo CEO

  • Technology firm Yahoo has appointed Google executive Marissa Mayer as its next CEO.

The 37-year-old will become the firm's third CEO in the space of a year.

In May, chief executive Scott Thompson stepped down following accusations that he included a fake computer degree on his CV.

In September 2011, chief executive Carol Bartz was fired after two-and-a-half years in the post.

Analysts say the selection of Mayer suggests a shift to technology and products as opposed to online content.
