Google's Eric Schmidt urges North Korea to embrace Internet
January 10 , 2013
Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has urged North Korea to enable its citizens to use the Internet.
Speaking in Beijing after a visit to Pyongyang, he said on Thursday that North Korea would continue to lag behind in economic terms unless it adopted Internet freedom.
Schmidt was part of a American delegation led by former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson.
The trip comes despite public criticism from the U.S. State Department due to tensions following North Korea's recent rocket launch.
The U.S. government described the visit as "not particularly helpful".
