Technology giant Google has offered cash support worth $163 million to Europe’s news publishers and start-ups focused on journalism.
The funds, which will be given over three years, are to be used to support the news organizations’ attempts to earn money through online coverage. The initiative is being backed by prominent groups such as the Guardian, the Financial Times, and Die Zeit.
Google has also said that it would work with publishers to explore ways to improve revenues by using apps, ads, analytics data and paywalls.
