Google browser users exposed to 'malicious add-ons': Research

  • Millions of users of Google Chrome are being unwittingly exposed to dozens of malicious extensions, new research has shown.

While most of these rogue browser add-ons are simply attempts to flood users with ads, the more dangerous ones steal valuable data such as login names, the research jointly carried out by Google and security experts revealed.

The study looked at over 100 million visits to Google sites, and eventually prompted the search giant to purge scores of bad extensions.
