Google 'appalled' at Photos app's 'racist label' error

  • Google said that it was appalled after its Photos app labeled two blacks as “gorillas” in a major blunder.

The app uses AI software to tag pictures that have been uploaded. A software developer based in New York who was among the people pictured in the images brought the racist error to attention.

Google received flak on the social media for the label. Apologizing for the error, a company executive said that Google was also “working on longer-term fixes” for such problems.
