Facebook's head of communications to step down

  • Joe Lockhart, Facebook head of global communications and a former press secretary for President Bill Clinton, is leaving the social networking company, Facebook announced on Friday.

Lockhart is the latest high-profile executive to leave the social networking site following its lukewarm initial public offering in May.

He is leaving 15 months after joining the company. Lockhart's last day at Facebook is yet to be decided.

A Facebook spokeswoman said Lockhart was leaving because he wanted to remain on the East Coast, rather than move to California, where Facebook is headquartered.

Lockhart was the chief spokesman and senior adviser to President Bill Clinton between 1998 and 2000. He went on to co-found the Glover Park Group communications firm in 2001.
