Facebook Messenger service has 500 million users

  • Facebook’s messaging service now has over 500 million users across the world, media reports say.

Users of the Messenger app more than doubled since the April figure of 200 million, the social networking giant said.

Users were asked to download the separate app earlier this year in order to send private texts, though the original Messenger has been around since 2011.

Peter Martinazzi, the director of product management at Facebook, wrote in a blog post that the company was “passionate about giving people a faster and more expressive way to communicate.”
