Facebook Instagram use plummeted after photo debacle

  • Facebook’s Instagram lost nearly a quarter of its daily users a week after it issued and later retracted policy changes as users feared the photo-sharing service would use their pictures without compensation.

Instagram, which was bought by Facebook for $715 million earlier this year, saw its number of daily active users who accessed the service via Facebook drop to 12.4 million as of Friday. The figure compares to a peak of 16.4 million last week, according to data compiled by online tracker AppData.

Instagram has disputed the survey, which was compiled from users that have linked the service to their Facebook accounts.
