Disney to shut down LucasArts
April 5 , 2013
The Walt Disney Company is to shut down LucasArts, the games developer behind the Star Wars series of games.
On Thursday, the company announced it plans to license the Star Wars games brand to other developers.
Star Wars 1313, which has already been developed to showcase at industry events, is likely to be put on hold.
The closure will also involve an unknown number of redundancies.
Disney inherited LucasArts in October last year after it bought LucasFilm, the film production company by Star Wars creator George Lucas, for $4.05 billion.
LucasArts was founded in May 1982 as the video game development group of Lucasfilm and went on to produce games such as Ballblazer, Rescue on Fractalus! and Secret of Monkey Island.
