Class Action Lawsuit Against Instagram
December 25 , 2012
Lucy Funes, a California-based Instagram user has filed a lawsuit against Instagram at the San Francisco federal court citing breach of contract. A number of users had expressed outrage following the photo sharing app's changed Terms of Service last week. Instagram had, according to the altered terms implied that it could sell the photos of users to third-parties who may use it for advertising. Also, the Facebook owned company forced its users to enter into arbitration to settle any conflicts with Instagram, waiving off all rights to sue the company. Major users such as National Geographic shut down their accounts and individual users raised a hue and cry in the social media sphere. Instagram has since recanted in its policy of enforcing the new terms but has exposed itself to this lawsuit. The suit is a class-action suit by Finkelstein & Krinsk.
