China pulls up firms for 'violent and vulgar' online cartoon clips
April 2 , 2015
Major video-streaming websites in China face punishment for their failure to remove explicit and violent Japanese cartoon clips.
The Ministry of Culture said that the companies hosted anime (Japanese animation), which glorified terrorism and violence and contained elements that were “vulgar”.
Online companies Tencent and Baidu are among the offenders. Twelve such clips on a single site had garnered over a million hits, according to the ministry.
China is carrying out a general clampdown on the use of online clips from foreign countries.
