Catholic church fined for mass texting

  • Austria's Roman Catholic church has been fined for mass texting. It has reportedly been violating the law by sending mass texts to the cellphones of followers and reminding time to pay their membership fees.

An official has mentioned that the diocese has agreed to pay a fine less than $13,475.

Those who are members of recognized religions in the country must pay church taxes or cancel their membership. A Catholic that fails to pay has no right to church sacraments.

A court took up the case since some of the church members complained about receiving these texts last year.
