Canada: Government websites targeted by anonymous hackers

  • Several Canadian government websites became the target of a hacking attack, causing them to go dark for several hours.

The services were later brought back, reports said. Canadian MP and treasure board president Tony Clement said that the cyber attack had hit government servers, adding that he could not confirm if any data had been stolen.

An anonymous hacker group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Clement said that the officials were working "very diligently” to get the services back in order and find out the origin of the attack.
