California student makes a space discovery

  • Michael Sandoval is only 21-year-old, but has already found something substantial along with his professor at San Jose State. Reports suggest that the undergrad student was able to spot a galaxy that had been swallowed by another one and NBC Bay Area reports that the finding occurred as he took his first course on the subject.

Astrophysics professor Aaron Romanowsky noted that some people devote years without finding anything, but this student took about a week. Moreover, the news of the finding comes while he is grieving the loss of his mother. "I didn't want to be sitting home, feeling sorry for myself," he said. "That's not what she would have wanted, anyway."
