California drivers allowed to check maps on their phones
March 1 , 2014
The California law allows drivers to look at maps while driving but bans motorists from texting or talking on their devices.
The appeals court sided with Steven Spriggs, who was fined for looking at a map while being stuck in traffic. The court mentioned that the law was enacted before the iPhone was launched.
The law is only applied to conversations and Spriggs mentioned that it should be written in a more clear manner. "We're distracted all the time," he said. "If our distractions cause us to drive erratically, we should be arrested for driving erratically."
