Better smartphones to give edge to space robots
July 9 , 2014
Nasa aims to send more sophisticated smartphones to space that will work as flying robots’ “eyes and brains.”
The Google 3D smartphones are expected to improve the robots’ functionality.
The robots called Spheres had limited movement capability initially, with tiny jets of CO2 propelling them forward. Smartphones were then used to improve camera, communication, and other capabilities.
Google's Project Tango, which uses 3D cameras in smartphones, will be the latest addition to the Spheres’ capabilities.
