Australia: Drones to protect beachgoers against shark attacks
November 25 , 2015
The New South Wales (NSW) administration in Australia will use drones to protect beachgoers from sharks in a first project of its kind.
The trial will start in the north coast of the NSW, which has seen several shark attacks in the past year.
Operators will use GPS co-ordinates to locate sharks from the images fed by the drones, reports say.
Niall Blair, the NSW minister for primary industries, said the government was testing the “best science available, including new technologies, as we try to find a long term-term solution to keep our beaches safe”.
