Apple releases OS X Mountain Lion system upgrade
July 26 , 2012
Apple has released the latest version of its Mac operation system.
The OS X Mountain Lion makes it easier to share material to social networks and also includes a notification panel similar to that found on some smartphones.
However, many users trying to download the new software received error messages in the hours after its release.
These included owners of new Macs who had been given coupons to redeem "free" copies of the system.
The upgrade is part of a trend to introduce features to its desktop and laptop products that have already been implemented on its iPad and iPhone mobile devices.
The update was first announced in February and revealed in the company's third quarter earnings release.
Mac sales were 2 percent up on the year but the results fell short of analysts' forecasts.
